As many of you may have heard, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) released and approved school letter grades this week. Lowell Elementary received an “A” Grade from the IDOE! We are very excited about and proud of this accomplishment! We could not be more proud of our students, staff, and families! An “A” Grade truly reflects all of the hard work, effort, and dedication to excellence demonstrated by staff and students! You should be very proud of your children and their accomplishments!
As often as weather permits, we will go outside for recess. Therefore, it is important that the children wear apparel that will permit sufficient warmth against cooler temperatures. Children are
expected to go out for recess unless they are recovering from a recent illness. Any request for extended time of staying in from recess must be accompanied with a doctor’s statement.
Several weeks ago, Lowell students had the privilege of recognizing one of our country’s veterans. Mr. Donald Bollinger was one of the veterans that participated in the most recent Honor Flight to Washington DC. An Honor Flight is a special day trip to our nation’s capital in which selected veterans spend the day visiting the monuments that honor their service. Our Lowell students wrote Mr. Bollinger over 400 letters that he received on that Honor Flight. To make it even more special, we realized after the fact that Mr. Bollinger actually attended Lowell Elementary school as a child. We were even more thrilled when he agreed to visit Lowell on Veteran’s Day! Mrs. Heidenreich’s first grade class as well as our student council officers were able to have lunch with him and were enthralled by his storytelling of his time in the service and his time at Lowell! He also played a pretty mean harmonica and entertained the students with several songs! It was a very special day for all of us, and we are so thankful for his service to our country and that of all of our veterans!
